2016 Southern Open Show

THE SEVERN HALL, Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcs. WR13 6NW

 SUNDAY 17th APRIL 2016

Judge: Mrs. D. Carr (Laumidorn)

An absolute thrill and honour to judge today, my heartfelt gratitude, to the committee of the ISCW for this privilege.  I was overwhelmed by the total number of exhibits entered. I wish to thank every exhibitor for allowing me to judge their pride and joy.

On reflection of the high quality of exhibits, it was with delight to see all bitches looking very feminine and males, masculine.  The quality of dogs was excellent, did not see one bad mouth in any of the exhibits other than a slight overshot in a youngster which should rectify itself as the skeleton becomes fully developed with the lower jaw being the last section to grow.  Presentation was exemplar for a coated breed.  All exhibits demonstrating affection and a happy disposition which is the true nature of the Irish Setter.

Thank you for a wonderful, relaxed  but tiring pleasant day.

BRACE8/4

Although sometimes thought of as a novelty class, there is a distinct art and criteria in exhibiting in a brace class.  Dogs should be of similar height, profile and unity on the move from the side, front and rear.  A well matched chosen brace, with control from the handler, will produce a pair of dogs that move in unity, synchronized as they flow around the ring and is a wonderful spectacle to see and all exhibits today were for the most part were synchronized.

Well done everyone.

1st Fox’s Brace: Young and Vintage in this brace.  Looked splendid and balanced both standing and on the move, equally paired in size and appearance.  Moved in a flowing, steady pace with full control from the handler.

2nd Corless’s Brace:  An equally matched brace in size and appearance, handled well but a little out of synchronization at times.

3rd Broadgate’s Brace:  Balanced pair just not as synchronized on the move which detracts from the overall flowing appearance.

4th Anthony’s Brace: Well matched but needing more work on the overall presentation and control on the move.
